Jan Mayeux

Jan Thedford Mayeux passed away in the early afternoon of May 1st, 2023 surrounded by family at the age of 78. Jan was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, Na-Na (grandmother and great-grandmother) and friend. Jan was born August 3rd, 1944 to Vernon Thedford and Florence Moody Thedford at her Granny Thedford's home and grew up on a ranch outside of Lolita, Texas being the oldest of the 3 girls. After graduating from Industrial High, she was crowned Jackson County Farm Bureau queen in 1962 and went on to attend Wharton Junior College before moving to Austin, Texas to pursue administrative work in the law enforcement, legal and political fields. Jan's political career included working for former Texas Senator Lloyd Doggett and campaigning for Judge Garwood in 1979 and the Reagan-Bush campaign in 1980. She was most proud of the time spent as a White House Appointee for the Reagan-Bush Administration in Washington DC, as well as being the Executive Administrator for Secretary T.H. Bell for the US Department of Education. Up until her passing, Jan enjoyed socializing with and campaigning for her dear friends in the local city elections in Nassau Bay, TX and being involved with the Nassau Bay Beautification Committee. Jan loved antiquing for books, beautiful French treasures or a sparkling chandelier. She was an avid gardener and neighbors could find her outside piddling as she always had the most beautiful yard on the street. Preceding Jan in death were her parents Vernon & Florence Thedford, sister Nancy Johnson and loving husband of 46 years, Don Mayeux. Surviving Jan are her son James Ty Mayeux & wife Cindy of Smith Point, TX; daughter Sonya Runkel & husband Steven of Austin, TX area; granddaughter Crystal Jordan & husband Jake and her great-grandchildren Caedence & Baize of Smith Point, TX; granddaughter Sheila Baird & husband Joe and her great-grandchildren Alex, Colton & Dalton of Smith Point, TX; sister Glenda Williams of Baytown, TX; dear beloved friend Fabian Padilla & son Mathew; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation services will be held from 10:00 am to 11:30 am on Saturday, May 6th, 2023, at Palms Funeral Home of Angleton, Texas. Graveside services to follow at 2:30 pm on Saturday, May 6th, 2023 at Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita, Texas. Service Details.
