Janet Valdez

Janet Brown Valdez, 69, of Angleton, Texas, went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2019. Janet passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Janet was born on February 8, 1950, to Robert Earl and Mary Louis Brown, in Goshen, Indiana. She married Ernest Valdez, Jr., in 1970, and they have five sons. Janet spent most of her youth in Downey, California. After high school, she moved to Texas where she met the love of her life, Ernest Valdez, Jr. They lived in Puerto Rico briefly at the beginning of their marriage, and then settled in Angleton, Texas, where they raised their five boys. After converting to Catholicism, Janet devoted her life to her Catholic faith and shared her faith with everyone she met. She spent years as a catechist and spent time as a director of religious education, teaching children of all ages at both St. Thomas & St. Basil's Catholic Churches in Angleton. Youth ministry was her passion. She loved planning retreats and outings for the youth, as well as baking and fundraising with them. She took great joy in sharing her love of God with them. Janet was also very involved in prayer groups and shared her faith as a spiritual director. When her boys were all grown, she eventually found a new church home at St. Jerome's parish in Clute. Janet enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, praying for others, and spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed. Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Brown and Mary Hyde. She is survived by her husband of nearly 49 years, Ernest Valdez, Jr.; her five sons, Sam Valdez (Patricia) of Angleton, TX, Carlos Valdez (Lana) of San Antonio, TX, Vince Valdez (Debbie) of Angleton, TX, Ernie Valdez of Houston, TX, and Michael Valdez (Denise) of Lake Jackson, TX, as well as 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her five sisters; Kathy Reeves, Margie Spencer, Linda Brown, her twin Judy Doraty, Bobbi Miesen, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation and rosary will be Monday, March 11, 2019 from 5 - 7:00 p.m. at St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Clute. A funeral mass will be held at St. Jerome's on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be Sam Valdez, Carlos Valdez, Vince Valdez, Ernie Valdez, Michael Valdez, and Gabriel Villanueva. Burial will follow the funeral at Angleton Cemetery. Service Details.
