Janice Smith

January 26, 1950 — January 7, 2021

Janice Bradford Smith, known as "Mimi," to many, passed away peacefully January 7, 2021 in Angleton, Texas at home surrounded by her loving family. Janice was born the youngest of three children in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was raised in Baton Rouge, graduated from Baton Rouge High School, and later went on to Business School. In 1970, she moved to Houston, Texas where she resided for the next 23 years. During those 23 years, she married the love of her life, Gordon, and raised their two daughters. She was an active member at Second Baptist Church where she enjoyed the sermons of Dr. Ed Young. While living in Houston, Janice could be found raising her children, cheering for her husband's athletic teams, and worshiping the Lord. In her early adult life Janice built a career in banking and an entrepreneur. She owned and operated many businesses such as a Buster Brown Shoe Store and Baskin Robins Ice Cream stores. Janice would later go on to work in public education and retired from Westside Elementary in 2013. Janice and her husband moved to Brazoria County, Texas in 1993. It was here that she would join First Baptist Church-Brazoria and subsequently find her earthly forever church home. In her 28 years as a member of FBC-Brazoria, Janice was a servant of the Lord, and was blessed to make lifelong friends that she would consider family. She and some of her church family recently traveled to the Holy Land which had been a priority of hers most of her life. One of the many highlights of the trip was being baptized in the Jordan River by her cherished Pastor Greg Smith. Janice was a beautiful person inside and out, as well as a devout Christian, caring sister, loyal wife, loving Mother, fervent and funny "Mimi". Her greatest joy in life was her daughters and grandchildren. She was deeply involved in her community and loved volunteering at Angleton Christian School. Janice celebrated life to the fullest by traveling, entertaining, and helping raise her grandchildren in Christ. Janice was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Bradford Jr., mother, Eloise Easterling Contorno and stepfather, Donte Contorno Jr., her older brother Kenneth Bradford, and her beloved nephew Gregory Jones. Left to mourn her passing and treasure her memories is her husband L. Gordon Smith; two daughters, Jennifer Torres and husband Ben, Elizabeth Torres, and husband Tony; five grandchildren: Sadie, Cullen, Grace, Ben Ryan, and Addison Torres; two great grandchildren Alexson and Dawson Tristan, her sister Shelia Jones, and brother-in-law Pastor David Smith and wife Jill. Janice will be laid to rest in a graveside service on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the Danbury Cemetery at 2pm, officiated by Brother Greg Smith. A public visitation for friends and family will be held at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton on Thursday, January 14, 2021 from 12-1pm. Pallbearers are: Ben Torres Sr, Ben Ryan Torres Jr., Billy Canard, Cullen Torres, Justin Warner, and Tony Corona. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of Janice's Sunday School class. Her family finds comfort in Ephesians 2:8-9 as they move forward rejoicing in the fact that their sweet Janice is now pain free, living with her Lord Jesus Christ, and all of those who have gone before. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. "For by GRACE you have been saved through FAITH. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of GOD, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9) In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make contribution to Angleton Christian School. Service Details.
