Jeffrey Coy Helms Jr.

Jeffrey C. Helms, Jr. 66, of Angleton, Lost his courageous battle with cancer on Friday, October 5, 2012 in Angleton. Funeral services are set for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Palms Funeral Home with Reverend Carol Petty officiating. Burial will follow in the Angleton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tom Mckeand, III, Tim Smith, Curtis Webb, Ken Chronister, Aubrey Gibson, and Eugene Wilkes. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 at Palms. Jeff was born October 26, 1945 in Freeport, Texas to Jeffrey & Sophie Helms, Sr. A lifelong Angleton resident he was member of the AHS Class of 1964 where he ran track and played football. Jeff was a member of Holy Comforter Episcopal Church. He was also a member of the Pipefitters Local Union #211 and a pipefitter and pipe designer. He had worked on the Alaskan Pipeline as well as in local plants such as Dow & BASF. Jeff's passion was drag racing. He built his first Hot Rod, a 57 Ford, at the age of 15 and enjoyed being part of the racing world for the rest of his life. He was preceded in death by his father, Jeffrey C. Helms, Sr. Survivors include his wife Cathy Helms of Angleton, mother, Sophie Helms of Clute, children, Glen E. Helms & wife Crystal of Lumberton, Jennifer Burleigh McCulloch & husband Allan "Marty" of Lake Jackson & Stephanie Ann Young & husband Cody of Humble. Brother, Glenn Ray Helms & wife Janie of Albuquerque, NM, sisters, Gail Poole & husband Steven of Shiro, Tx, Sharon Pyeatt & husband Bill of Angleton & Arlene Rogers of Lake Jackson. 6 Grandchildren; Kevin Burleigh, Savannah McCulloch, Amanda Helms, Michael Helms, Noah Young & Levi Young. Jeff also leaves behind his beloved racecar, Jezebel. Memorial donations can be made to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center at P.O. Box 4486
