Jerry Don Albright, 81, resident of Angleton, Texas died Monday, November 27th 2023, at HCA Hospital in Pearland due to heart failure. He had lived in Angleton for the past 22 years with his wife Carol Albright.
He was born June 28th 1942, in Amarillo, Texas, the son of Donald & Ruby Albright. During his childhood the family lived in Amarillo, Texas; Guymon, Oklahoma; Liberal, Garden City & Parsons, Kansas. In 1950, he started working at the age of 8 for the local newspaper in Guymon, Oklahoma. He never stopped working until he retired in 2020. He graduated from Parsons High School in May of 1960. He earned his Associates Degree from Parsons Junior College in August of 1962. After earning his degree, he worked as a Research Assistant at the Parsons State Hospital & Training Center, sold Life Insurance & was a car salesman. In June of 1970 he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Science from the University of Kansas. Most notably, in 1970 he began his career in Law Enforcement at the Shawnee Police Department, taking after his father who had been an Amarillo Police Officer when Jerry was a child. In 1978 his family moved to Houston, Texas where he opened a business named “Doctor Vinyl” performing various repairs and customizations for the local car dealerships. In the 1980’s he worked in the vending business in Houston & South Texas. In the early 1990’s he returned to Law Enforcement earning his Texas Commission on Law Enforcement License. He worked for Bee County Sherriff’s Department as a Reserve Deputy until he went to work for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice working in the Parole Division in 1994. In 2009 he retired from the State of Texas after over 17 years of service. He again returned to Law Enforcement serving as a Reserve Police Officer for the Angleton Police Department in 2010. During this time, he was awarded the “Distinguished Expert” for marksmanship from the NRA, the “Blue Star Officer of the Year” signed by Governor Rick Perry & earned the “Field Training Officer” Certification from Angleton Police Department. Starting in 2011 he also held a dual commission with the Oyster Creek Police Department and later with the Brazoria County Constable’s Office. He eventually served 11 years and 6 months as a Certified Police Officer in the State of Texas. He retired as a “Master Peace Officer” in 2020. His passion in life was being a police officer and he was one of the best. He also enjoyed research, reading, photography, shooting, cars and HAM Radio.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Albright of Angleton, Texas, Sisters Roxanne Wiederstein & her husband Larry of Parsons, Kansas and Debra Byrd & her husband Phil of Broken Arrow Oklahoma. Children from a previous marriage to Nancy Pearson, Rhonda LeBlanc and her husband Jay of East Bernard, Texas & Scott Albright and his wife Christa of Katy, Texas. Grandchildren, Jenna LeBlanc, Dustin Albright, Jacob Albright, Skyler White, Chevelle Crowley, Grace Marbach and Devin Rutab. He is preceded in death by his parents Ruby & Don and his brother Ronnie Albright.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Palms Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm, with burial to follow at Angleton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the Shop with a Cop program with the Angleton Police Department or the Angleton Police Officer’s Association in his honor.
He loved God, his wife, his two children, all his grandchildren, serving his community and he loved life.
