Jewel Lorene Rainey

Jewel Lorene Rainey, 90 of Angleton passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012. She was born March 14, 1921 in Elkhart, Texas to Marvin & Helen Hortman. Jewel spent 69 years in the Brazosport area and was a member of the Church of Christ on Wilkins Street. Family was very important to her; she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Jewel was an amazing seamstress and would sew hand crafted, one of a kind, drapery. She loved playing bridge and 42 with all of her friends. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and her chocolate pie was impossible to beat. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank Anson Rainey, parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Jewel is survived by her children, John D. Rainey and wife, Judy of Rockport, TX; Verna Ruhmann and husband, Gene of Clute, TX; grandchildren, Chuck, Jimmy, Robert and Ron Ruhmann and John David, Jake and Craig Rainey; 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; brother, Marion Hortman and wife, Kathleen; sister, Dora Quarles and brother-in-law, Harry Dunnam, numerous nieces and nephews and many adoring friends. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, TX. Funeral services will be Friday, March 2, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Church of Christ on Wilkins Street with Leland Rodgers to officiate. Graveside services will be held Saturday, the 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at Pilgrim Cemetery in Elkhart, TX.
