Jimmy Ray Jones

June 19, 1934 — December 23, 2020

Jimmy Ray "JR" Jones passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, December 23. He was a long-time Angleton resident, born on June 19, 1934, to Raymond and Lora Jones. Survivors include daughters; Dodie Armstrong of Angleton and Loretta Kay "Lori" Johnston (Willie) of Crockett; grandchildren, Lora Armstrong Duffey, Jimmy Armstrong (Ashley), and Emma Johnston; great grandchildren, Sidda Armstrong, Tripp Duffey, Paityn Miller, and Preston Armstrong; brothers-in-law, Rod Fulsom of Heavener, Ok. and Phillip Dodds of Brazoria; and sister-in-law Judy Sanders of Brazoria. Jimmy was a friend and mentor to many. He was a man of integrity, strength, honesty, and love. His lengthy career in Law Enforcement, serving Brazoria County started early on when he was hired to read meters in downtown Angleton, which then lead to a job working under Jack Marshall at Brazoria County Sheriff's Office. Law enforcement was in his blood as he would often tell people, and even after retirement his "mind was always working". His work ethic and skill lead him to many opportunities throughout his career, including working alongside the Texas Rangers, being appointed by two Governors to several task forces, as well as being Chief Investigator of the Brazoria County District Attorney's office where he retired from after 43 years of service. Family was so important to Jimmy, he loved "his girls" with every piece of his heart. And after he became a grandfather, people saw a different side of him. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. His eyes would light up when he spoke of them and you could feel how much he loved each and every one of them. His tireless love and devotion to his friends and family were evident in his final moments. People wishing to honor his legendary work and devotion to law enforcement can make donations to The 100 Club of Brazoria County of which Jones was a lifelong member. Donations can be mailed to P.O.
