"Jo" Joanne Elaine Puryear

Joanne "Jo" Spear Puryear, 69, passed away with her family by her side on March 21, 2019 in Houston, TX. Jo was born on July 8, 1949 in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada to Elsie Winn Spear and Roy Howard Spear. At the age of 3, Jo's family moved to Houston where she grew up. She graduated from Jones High School and attended the University of Houston. She and Mike, her husband of 48 years, met at Berachah Church. Mike was a Marine and the newlyweds spent the first part of their marriage stationed in Kansas City. They later returned to Houston to begin their family, spent four years in Oklahoma, and eventually settled with their family in Angleton, TX. Joanne homeschooled her 7 children and later returned to school and completed her Bachelor's Degree at Brazosport College. She worked full time at Angleton High School as a technology teacher while completing her Master's degree and working on her PhD. Her faith, love for her family, and love for her Lord were evident to all who knew her. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Michael Puryear; her children, Elaine Guikema (Randy), Michael Puryear, Charles Puryear, (Natalia), John Puryear (Mary), Leah Golden (Matthew), Joel Puryear (Lauren), and Rebekah Preston (Travis); 14 Grandchildren, Drew Guikema, Brandon Guikema, Samantha Guikema, Madison Guikema, Eliana Guikema, Theresa Puryear, Augustine Puryear, Clare Puryear, John Puryear, Edith Puryear, George Puryear, Noah Golden, Aubrey Golden, & Eli Golden; sister Carollynn Black (Howard), brother-in-law Harry Puryear (Debbie); nieces Kelley Black LaFargue, Nicole Puryear Harner, Amy Puryear Rountree, Casie Puryear and nephew Bryan Black, many loving cousins, friends and students. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, son Peter, and brother Roy Douglas Spear. A Celebration of Joanne's life will be held at Church on MastersRoad, 6911 Masters Road, Manvel, TX 77578 on April 6 at 2:00 in the afternoon.
