Joe Bailey Spillars, Jr. Joe Bailey Spillars, Jr., (70) was born on December 22, 1942 to Joe Spillars, Sr. and Dorothy Krenek Spillars in Pasadena, Texas. On August 21, 2013, Joe made the transition into the heavenly kingdom at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston, surrounded by his family. He was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Angleton, Texas; a Fourth Degree member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Assembly; a Past Grand Knight and member of Knights of Columbus Council 5155 in Angleton, Texas. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 200 in Wallis, Texas, and a lifetime member of the Brazoria County Fair Association. Joe is survived by his bride of 45 years, Lillie Vrazel of Angleton, Texas; daughter, JoAnne Skinner, and husband Michael and grandchildren, Slade and Chase Skinner, of Sweeny, Texas; son Joe, III and wife Dona, and grandchildren, Jody, Jessica, and Julie Ann Spillars of Angleton, Texas, and step-grandchildren Megan and Brittni Williams; son, John and wife, Jennifer, grandchildren, Natalie, John Jr., Jacob and Jason Spillars of Danbury, Texas; daughter, Jolene Bankson and husband Jeff, and grandchildren, Kendyl and Luke Bankson of Angleton, Texas; and many members of the Donat and Marie Vrazel family of Danbury, Texas. He is also survived by his Aunt Edith (wife of the late Sil) Krenek, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Joe was born in Pasadena, Texas, attended school and graduated from Permian High School in Odessa, Texas. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1961 to 1965, and by the grace of God, he became ill and was quarantined with chickenpox when his company was deployed to Vietnam. He spent his service time stateside. Upon completion of his military service, he went to work for the Texas Department of Corrections, serving as a field officer, excelling in firearm marksmanship. He also spent much of his time in the TDC Southern Area Maintenance Department. He retired with 23 plus years. He then worked as a journeyman electrician with various contractors in the area. Joe also was a Brazoria County Deputy Sheriff, working as property officer under both Sheriff Joe King and Sheriff Charles Wagner, retiring again after 10 years. Joe was an avid reader, liked to fish and hunt; liked to play games, liked to win, did not like to lose, if he lost that was the end of that game--the card deck might end up missing the kings. He loved to dance, to go to Coushatta, liked to travel. A favorite place was Glen Rose, Texas, and being able to walk in the footprints of dinosaurs. He enjoyed making people laugh with his often dry humor. He liked to flirt with the ladies, but he loved his trophy wife. He liked to garden, especially peppers that he would enjoy with every meal. He would can vegetables to enter in the Brazoria County Fair where he won best of show. He enjoyed guns, coins, lost treasures, and history in general. He was very private, but had a true relationship with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Joe is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Dorothy Spillars; maternal grandparents, Frank and Albina Krenek; his aunts, Claudia Brejcha, Marie Sulak, and uncle Sil Krenek; his fraternal grandparents Jack and Victoria Spillars; and his mother and father in law, Donat and Marie Vrazel.
