John Dunnam Branch, age 84 of Angleton, Texas, went home to be with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior on December 13, 2015. John D., or "Johnny B," as he was affectionately known by many, was born on July 6, 1931, in Alexandria, Louisiana, to John and Sadie Branch and graduated from Boyce High School. John D enlisted in the Air Force in 1951, where he served in St. Johns, Newfoundland and Mobile, Alabama until being honorably discharged in January, 1955. He married his high school sweetheart, Bessie Mae Martin, on July 10, 1954; and he unselfishly loved, cherished, and served her until he was called home by his Lord. John D and Bessie moved to Angleton, Texas in October, 1955, when he began his 38-year career with Dow Chemical Company. After retiring from Dow, John D worked as an Instructor for the Contractors Safety Council, in Freeport, Texas, for five more years. John D was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson, Texas until 1985, when he and Bessie joined Northway Baptist Church, in Angleton. He was ordained as a Deacon on May 7, 1989; and he graciously served until being awarded the title of Deacon Emeritus, on June 3, 2012. John D is best-known by many for his love of playing country and gospel music for more than 40 years in his band, "Johnny B & the Good Guys." He, Bessie, and the band played for many area churches and organizations throughout the region. John D is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bessie Mae Branch; sister, Faye Branch Watkins, of Boyce, Louisiana; children, Bruce Lynn Branch and Jennifer Lee Herbst, both of Angleton; and grandchildren, Timothy Branch of Dilley, Texas, Kalynn Branch, Colin Branch, Thomas Branch, Christina Herbst, Alexandra Herbst, Mark Herbst, and Victoria Herbst of Angleton. Pallbearers will be Timothy Branch, Colin Branch, Thomas Branch, Carl Herbst, Mark Herbst, and Jamie Knight. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Northway Baptist Church in Angleton. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Palms Funeral Home. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, in Pineville, Louisiana at 1:00pm Friday, December 18, 2015. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Northway Baptist Church in memory of John Branch.
