John Allen Scott, aged 79, of Houston, Texas, passed away on March 19, 2025, leaving a legacy of love, resilience, and warmth behind him. Born on February 4, 1946, in North Platte, Nebraska, John was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend, whose life was a testament to the values of service and family. An Army veteran, John proudly served his country and carried that spirit of dedication into all aspects of his life. His work as a truck driver took him across the nation, but it was his time spent with loved ones that truly defined him.
John was immensely proud of his family, including his son Mike Scott (wife, Dawn), daughter Christina Scott, and grandchildren Scotty (wife, Leeanna), Mitchell (girlfriend, Maddie Manna), James, and Sophia Scott, each of whom brought immense joy to his life. John is also survived by his great-grandchildren; Whitley and Wesley Scott, his sister; Shirlee Lewis, as well as his numerous nieces and nephews.
John enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—sipping coffee or cranberry juice and spending peaceful afternoons fishing. An avid reader, he dedicated himself to Bible study, diligently following a one-year reading plan that brought him comfort and guidance. Known for his good humor and zest for life, John was famous for his two beloved quotes, “29 and holding” and “I’m still kicking!” These lines reflected his optimistic outlook and determined spirit, endearing him to those fortunate enough to know him. John shared a special bond with his beloved Marilyn, who was undoubtedly “his special person,” adding depth and joy to his years. They were married in North Platte on February 27, 1965, and enjoyed 53 years of wedded bliss, before Marilyn passed away in 2018.
As we remember John, his upcoming celebration of life will be held at Northway Baptist Church, where family and friends will gather to honor him on March 31, 2025, at 10:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at the Houston National Cemetery at 1:00 PM, where he will receive the honors befitting a man who lived a life of dignity and purpose.
His legacy will live on through the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the memories forged in his presence. John Allen Scott will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn (Hankins) Scott, his parents: Allen and Leitha (Vannetta) Scott, his children; CaroleAnne, James Allen, and Allen James, and his 3 sisters and 1 brother.
