Johney Elllis James

Johney Ellis James of Angleton passed away peacefully Friday, February 22, 2019 at UTMB in Angleton at the age of 83 and went to be with his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. The twinkle in his eyes and his dry wit will be missed by all who knew him. He was born in April 1935 in Blanco, Oklahoma to Otis James, Sr. and Lula B. Adams James of Oklahoma. He was the second child with an older brother, Otis James, Jr., and a younger sister, Lou James Rager Bates. When he was 13 years old, the family moved to Chambers, Oklahoma, and he graduated high school in nearby Savannah. In the mid-50s, he served for two years in the Army before moving his family to Angleton, where he remained a resident for the rest of his life (except for a few brief years pursuing careers back in Oklahoma). He retired after 40 years in the chemical industry. He enjoyed friendship and membership at Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Richwood, TX. Johney is predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline Esters James, with whom he was happily married for 32 years. He is also predeceased by his parents, Otis and Lula James, his brother and wife, Otis & Doris James, his grandsons, Johney and Kevin James, his great-granddaughter, Katherine Nesbitt, and other loved family members. Johney is survived by his sister Lou and husband Bob Bates of Granbury, TX; by his children John and wife Lauree James of Perkins, OK; Bobby and wife Linda James of Angleton, TX; Scott and wife Tammy Elliott of Indiana; Debra Garcia of Angleton, TX; by his grandchildren Wendy James, Heidi James Cerbone & family, Amanda James Parker & family, Eric James & wife, Angela Oswald & family, Amy Alvarado & family, Nick Elliott, Kate Elliott, Jessica Girdler & family, Annie Morical & family; and a loved collection of nephews, nieces, and extended-family members. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 24th at Palms Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, February 25th at 9:00 a.m. at Palms Funeral Home.
