Johnny Ray Brewer

October 13, 1946 — September 23, 2012

Johnny Ray Brewer, 65, of Angleton, TX went fishing for eternity on Sunday September 23, 2012. Butch was born on October 13, 1946 in Cuero, TX to Bernice and Charles Brewer. He graduated from Angleton High School in 1965. He achieved such titles as Mr. AHS and all district football, basketball, and track. To his friends in high school, he was better known as "Spider." When he wasn't playing sports, he was fishing and hunting on the bays. He worked at Vic's Bait Camp during the summers. He met the love of his life Connie Benkula while working together at Lacks Furniture in Clute, TX and would be joined in holy matrimony on June 24, 1972. The majority of his adult career would be spent engraving music on the hearts and minds of children and adults alike while owning and operating B&H Music Company. His love of sports carried thru the years and thru the house while yelling and serving as assistant coach to such favorites as the Texas Longhorns, Houston Rockets, Houston Oilers, and early to mid Astros from the comfort of his recliner. Anyone who had the pleasure of tasting it knew that he made the best smoked brisket, gumbo, and beans. Crawfish didn't stand a chance when they were in season. Butch never turned down the opportunity for a good old fashion crawfish boil. Fish were always in trouble since they were always in season and he even started such events as seafood Christmas dinner. You always knew where he was at a party with the loud voice and emphasized enthusiasm he added to every story he would tell. Oh, and you were guaranteed to hear it more than once. His favorite past times were spent hunting and fishing. The last couple months out of the year were spent on his or his buddy's deer leases in Dew, Sanderson, and Fredericksburg. He could never spend too much time at his Uncle Billy's home and property in Fairfield. Summers, holidays, and every Fishing Fiesta were spent on Bastrop Bayou in a cabin built by Butch and a few of his best friends with their bare hands. Butch was an amazing husband, dad, uncle, Paw Paw, father in law, and friend. He dearly loved his grandkids, god children, and dog Happy. Words can't describe the void that will be left by the loss of this extraordinary man. He was preceded in death by his parents,(brother) Davey, (sister) Vicki,(grandson) Cole Brewer, and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by (wife) Connie, (son) Bruce and wife Elizabeth Brewer, (son) Ryan and wife Heather Brewer, (daughter) Dawn and husband Rollie O'Dell, (grandchildren) Greyson and Grant Brewer, Charli Brewer, Trey O'Dell, Jacob, Malia, and Mykah Frost, (sister) Gail Harris, (brother) Craig Harris, (brother and sister in law) Greg and Carolyn Benkula, (brother and sister in law) Timm and Bonnie Benkula.
