Joseph Aguillard Ragland, Sr. died December 21, 2012 at home in Angleton. He was born June 1, 1917 in Beaumont , Texas . He was the son of Anita Aguillard Ragland Schmitz and Herman Ragland. His beloved step-father George Schmitz always cared for him as if he were his own. He and his wife June moved to Angleton from Beaumont in August, 1967. He purchased the Chrysler/Plymouth dealership from Henry Lee. In 2004, he retired from the dealership at which time they held Chrysler, Jeep & Dodge franchises. He received the 1st. Pioneer Award from the Angleton Chamber of Commerce in 2009. In 1990 he instituted a college scholarship fund to be given each year to an outstanding Angleton High School student. Joe Ragland was a southern gentleman who reveled in the car business and always believed in "treating the customer right". In addition he had a passion for airplanes and obtained a patent on an autoplane wing. Joe Ragland was an avid reader especially in history and government. He also had an extraordinary memory for vintage movies and music of the 30's and 40's and could recall the details of events which occurred decades before. These memories he spun in to stories that were absorbing and humorous. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, June Allen Ragland, whom he considered his greatest teacher, also by granddaughter, Lydia Lee Mann and brother-in-law Jack Parker. Survivors include daughter June A. Ragland Mann, son Joe A Ragland, Jr. & wife Lynda, sisters, Anita S. Moore of Monterey Park CA, Frances S. Holt, & Virginia S. Parker both of Palm Springs, CA., Grandchildren, Julie Mann Bauer, Laura Mann Robinson, June Janean Mann, Joe A Ragland, III, & Shelly Ragland Bowman. Great-Grandchildren, Kyle and Remi Ragland, Matthew Skeen, Corben Trevino Roger Bowman, Jr., Elan Bowman, Amber Whitley, Nick, Edwin, Margaret and Anne Marie Bauer, Jonah and Lydia Meretsky. Great-Great Grandchildren, Ethan Grant & Adeline Whitley, Brooklyn and Carter Bauer and Dominic Hinojosa. He is also survived by a host of extended family and friends. Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are John Bauer, Roger Bowman, Rebecca Ragland, Freddy Brown Doug Robinson, Greg Donnell & Dr. Scott Rogers. Memorials may be made to Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church 1713 N. Tinsley, Angleton , Tx 77515 . Visitation will be from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2012 with a Christian Wake beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at. Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
