Karl Wayne Harriman, 65, of Angleton, passed away peacefully with his wife, Susan by his side on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. He unexpectedly suffered a severe brain bleed Sunday, February 5. Karl was born August 26, 1956, in Freeport, Texas, in the Dow Magnesium Hospital to Marjorie Mills Harriman and Lester Harriman. Growing up, Karl attended schools in Angleton. He was a proud member of the infamous Boy Scout Troop 13, led by Flop Jackson, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Angleton High School in 1973 where he was a journalist and photographer for the school and local newspapers. He attended Brazosport College, Texas A&M University and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Karl worked as the Chief Classification Manager for Texas Department of Corrections at the Clemens Unit, and then served as a Supervisor for the Brazoria County Juvenile Probation Office. He taught at West Brazos Junior High in Columbia-Brazoria ISD for six years, sharing his passion for Texas History with his students, and coaching tennis, track, and football before retiring in 2017. A proud patriot, Karl read Rumble.com regularly. One of his favorite pastimes was mowing. He enjoyed eating Whataburger and Mexican food, going to Lowe's, watching the History Channel, HGTV, Newsmax, and dog videos on his phone. He knew the history of lots of various things and enjoyed sharing random facts and quoting "Friends." Karl loved hanging out with his dog Maggie and granddog Miller, and "counting cows." He had many interests including art, traveling, and following college football, especially the Texas A&M Aggies. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Marjorie Harriman, sister Cathy Harriman Luce, and his beloved shih tzu, Sadie. He is survived by his wife, Susan Ruttiger Harriman and daughters, Ashley and Natalie; in-laws, Margaret and Ronnie Ruttiger; brother-in-law, Ronnie Ruttiger Jr. and wife Lupe; brother-in-law, Earl Hoyt Luce; beloved cousins Vickie Fontenot Reed and Cindy Fontenot, and many other family and friends. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 15 at 5:00 and services will be at 6:00, at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton. Graveside service will be Wednesday at Angleton Cemetery at 10:00. Pastor Cynthia (CJ) Henry will officiate. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Ruttiger Jr., Earl Hoyt Luce, Eric Herbst, Doug Fogle, Paul Dvorak, Larry Boyd, Mike Petter and the "Garner Gang."
