Kathleen Melba Smith

Kathleen Melba Walters Smith, 88, of Angleton, died in her home on Tuesday, October 30, 2012. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Smith (Smitty) & parents A.E. (Auggie) Walters & Floy Crush Walters Stephens & step brother James Stephens. Kathleen was born on January 25, 1924. She graduated from John H. Reagan High School in June of 1941. Kathleen has been a resident of Angleton since the late 1960's, where she & Smitty built their home & shared their life together. Kathleen earned a full certificate, with rating of navigator with the United States Power Squadron. During World War II, she worked in the manufacture of Army & Navy binoculars. After the war, she worked for Drillers Generator, repairing oilfield bucket generators & pop off valves. She learned to do welding & brazing while employed there. Kathleen worked for Ruska Instrument in building & assembling geo-physical, such as magna, meter & theodolites. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling, boating, gardening, jokes, gambling & times with friends. Graveside services will be Friday morning at 10:00 at the Angleton Cemetery. Pastor Thomas will conduct the services. Kathleen is survived by half sister Marion Libby & husband Jean of Pasadena, three nieces, Carol Kight of Spicewood, Patricia Libby of League City, Marilyn Shores & husband David of Pasadena. Special cousins, Fred Oberhelman of Angleton & Dottie Day of Livonia, Michigan, various other relatives, special caregiver Carolyn McGehee, & a host of dear friends.
