Leon Hines Skeete, Jr. passed from this life to the next on March 30, 2016 at his home in Angleton, Texas. Leon was born on December 1, 1931 in Sealy Texas and at age 12 moved to the Brazosport area as one of Lake Jackson's first residents. Leon worked for Dow Chemical where he met his future wife, Lula Smith, They married in 1957, built a home in Angleton and raised a family. Leon and Lula were charter members of Chapelwood Methodist Church in Lake Jackson and after moving to Angleton became members of the First United Methodist Church. After retiring, Leon and Lula volunteered for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge, Hudson Woods and the annual Migration Celebration. He and Lula were named Volunteers of the Year in 2004. Leon is survived by son Guy Bugg and his wife Sue, daughter Suzanne Benites and her husband Ray and son Stuart Skeete; four grandchildren, Adam and Ashley Skeete and Kathryn and Rebecca Cook; and sister, Dorothy Dell Haschke. He was preceded in death by Lula Skeete, his bride of 56 years, his parents Leon and Edna Skeete, and sister Lorene Lucas. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Angleton. The family requests memorials be made to support the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge through Friends of Brazoria Wildlife @ PO Box 505, Lake Jackson TX 77566.
