Leonard Modol Rice III “Trey”, 42, of Angleton passed away on March 31, 2024. To say that my husband was my closest friend, love of my life, and the best man and partner I could have ever dreamed of, would still not suffice. There are no words for a man like Trey Rice…that is how incredibly amazing he was. He put God first in his life and in our marriage and would tell you the best thing that ever happened to him was finding the Lord six years ago, and the blessing of Salvation. He read the entire Bible and possessed a great love and knowledge of Biblical scriptures, and I would often come to him with my questions, as he would share stories from the Bible to help me come to an understanding through the Word of God.
His second greatest love was his family. Every single day, he made me feel like the most special person in the world. He used to say it took God for him to believe in ‘soulmates’, and that is the blessing we received by becoming One under God in marriage. Almost weekly, sometimes even several days in a row, he would remind me how lucky he was to have me, and how much he thanked God for bringing us together again. I would tell him, “I know honey, I’m so lucky too…we’re both so lucky and blessed to have found each other again after so many years.” You see, we’ve known each other since I was 13. We fell in love and became engaged when we were in our 20s. Though life separated us for a time, we’ve always been grateful that everything good comes together in God’s timing and that He brought us together again in 2019. We were married by Pastor Michael James Hammonds in a private ceremony on February 28, 2021 at Angleton First Church. His love for his children, Andrew, Stella and Henry was unwavering, and unconditional. They were always on his mind, and when he spoke of them all, you could hear the love and hope for their futures. He was very protective of his courageous mother, and so grateful to God for bringing is step-father Charlie into their lives when he was just 14.
Trey is one of those special people you meet in life, that you know immediately is one of a kind; beautiful inside and out. An irreplaceable husband, father, and son.
‘Trey’, was born Leonard Modol Rice III, to Leonard and Erlene Rice in Clear Lake, Texas. He was raised and attended High School in Angleton. While his father was still living, Trey was grateful for the time they spent fishing, and developing his talents in baseball. With his father as his coach early on, Trey was a ‘star’ left-handed pitcher whose hard work and dedication to the sport helped him earn the opportunity to play at Galveston College, then at the University of Texas San Antonio, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology. He was then drafted by the Cincinnati Reds and advanced to the AA level. We made the decision together that Trey would leave baseball because it was important to Trey to be there for his family, rather than on the road all the time. After baseball, he continued his schooling and obtained a Master’s in Education. After years as an educator, he had the bravery to begin a new career in Safety and Training. He was always so intelligent, one of the smartest men I’ve ever known. Trey was even asked to prepare an article for EHS Today, a National Safety publication magazine. After rapid promotions with Shintech, Trey was offered a tremendous opportunity, and began working for Mammoet as a Trainer to continue his relationship-based safety philosophy and expertise. What he accomplished in his career in just a few short years, many wouldn’t have been able to accomplish in a lifetime.
Trey was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Madole Rice, Jr., his grandmother Dorothy Rice Hill and his grandfather, Leonard Madole Rice, Sr.
Trey is survived by his loving wife Shelly, his incredible children Andrew, Stella, and Henry Rice, and his amazing stepfather and mother Charles and Erlene Stewart.
