Levanche Tanquary Harris

Levanche Tanquary Harris, aged 76, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, at the Oak Village Healthcare facility in Lake Jackson, Texas. Levanche was born on June 6, 1948, to Dorothy Daum Tanquary and Kent Tanquary. She grew up as an only child in Kentland, Indiana, where she spent her formative years. In 1966, she graduated from A.J. Kent High School, named in honor of her great-grandfather, the founder of Kentland. After high school, Levanche pursued higher education at the University of Denver in Colorado, fully embracing her educational opportunities and laying a foundation for her future endeavors. After completing her studies, she relocated to La Porte, Texas, and embarked on a successful career as an attorney, specializing in appellate law. Over the years, she practiced with various prominent law firms in the city, earning respect for her dedication and legal expertise. In 1995, Gene and Levanche moved to Angleton, Texas, to enjoy a quiet country lifestyle with their horses nearby.

Levanche's life was rich with diverse passions she pursued throughout her years. She found joy in her youth sailing the open waters and riding horses. As she entered her later years, her love for animals blossomed, especially for her cherished dogs and birds, who filled her life with companionship and joy. She was also a former member of the Houston Yacht Club and the Lakewood Yacht Club, organizations that nurtured her passion for the boating community.

Levanche's personal life was touched by enduring love. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene B. Harris, with whom she shared over 35 years of marriage. Their bond was significant in her life.

She is survived by her stepdaughters, Leigh Shields (Chris) and Lesley McLean (Matt), several step-grandchildren: Emma, Tate, CJ, and Elizabeth, as well as her beloved Borzois and parrots. Her step-grandchildren affectionately called her ‘Grandma Vanche.’

Levanche was a firecracker of a woman, smart, witty, feisty, and compassionate. Her legacy will live on through the lives of those she touched during her remarkable journey.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all those who provided unwavering support and assistance to her throughout her life. Your kindness and dedication meant the world to her and us. A private memorial service will be held at a later date, where we will come together to honor her memory and celebrate her life.
