Lonnie Eugene "Gene" Wade

Lonnie Eugene "Gene" Wade, 87, of Alvin passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022 with family by his side. Gene led a multi- faceted life that began on December 28, 1934, in Pearland, Texas. Alvin has been his home for his lifetime, although his life journey took him away for some periods of time. Gene was a graduate of Alvin High School and studied two years at the University of Texas. He was drafted into the United States Army twice, spending two years in Germany, and then again during the Korean conflict. He married Judy Vaughan on May 12, 1967, in Houston. He was a Licensed Independent Insurance Agent / Certified Insurance Counselor and owned Coastal Insurance Agency in Alvin. He was in the business for 30 years. Service was important to him. He was a member of the Alvin Masonic Lodge #762, where he served as the Worshipful Master during the historic flood of 1979. As a Shriner, he helped several children get care at The Shriner's Hospital for Children. Gene and Judy loved to travel, which led them on trips all over the United States and Canada throughout their marriage. They were one of five founding members of the Shiftless Sams RV Club, which was in existence for 45 years. If he was not in his camper on a great adventure, he could often be found on his motorcycle or on the water in his sailboat, either for leisure or to sail competitively to places like Vera Cruz and Isla Mujeres. He was a great athlete, excelling in baseball, football and competitive diving. His great love was ballroom dancing and became a competitive ballroom dancer at the age of seventeen. He and his partner Betty Jo won the National Ballroom Competition, and then competed for the World Championship in Havana, Cuba. Gene he earned his second-degree black belt in Tae Kwan Do in his 40's. Many things brought him happiness, but his family was where his heart truly was. Those that preceded him in death are his parents Tranquillo "Red" and Ruth (Armstrong) Gubert; Those blessed with so many memories to treasure include his wife Judy Wade of Alvin; daughters: Missy Gately of Kyle and Deana Turner of The Woodlands; grandchildren: Tristan Rogers, Avery Rogers, Trevor Rogers, Jack Turner, and Ethan Turner; and numerous other family members and friends. A time to celebrate and honor Gene's life will be held on June 26, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton.
