Louis Brown

February 9, 1925 — February 19, 2016

Louis Brown, 91, of Angleton, took his last breath on earth and his first breath in Heaven on Friday February 19, 2016 surrounded by his adoring family. Louis was born on February 9, 1925 in Livingston, Texas to Charlie Brown and Penola Moore. He was the last survivor of nine children. His humble childhood was spent helping his father plow the fields for food and cotton. This was what fostered his love for gardening. Louis came to Brazoria County as a teenager to work for Dow Chemical. He often shopped after work at Elkins Grocery in Velasco, which is where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Loesch of Kenney, TX. They would have celebrated their 70th anniversary this coming June. Louis was a proud employee of Dow and brought joy to his co-workers and supervisors in the "Mag Cells" (Magnesium Cells) with his quick wit and great sense of humor. After a 35-year tenure with Dow, he went to work for Brazoria County Precinct 2 in 1976. After nine years there, he retired from the workforce and was excited to focus on his family and gardening full time. All of Louis's neighbors, friends, and family loved how he could bring his yard alive with color and they enjoyed benefitting from the fruits of his labor when they received his delicious fresh-grown vegetables. His adornment of flowers earned him yard of the month numerous times. He looked forward each year to the lovely spring flowers, which were his favorite, but his knowledge of plants and flowers kept his yard colorful year-round. Louis and Dorothy were faithful members of Second Baptist Church in Angleton, TX for over 60 years and church members still fondly recall how much they enjoyed driving by his beautiful yard on the way to church. Louis also enjoyed hunting and camping from the time he was a child, and his family is left with many fond memories of time spent on various hunting and camping excursions. Of all of his accomplishments, Louis was most proud of his family, and he took great delight in watching it grow over the years with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Louis is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Brown of Angleton, his son Wayne Brown and wife Kathey of Angleton, and his daughter Rhonda Rice and husband Robert of Angleton. Louis never missed an opportunity to spend time with his grandsons Bryan Brown and wife Kelsie of Van Vleck, and Clayton Stewart and wife Kaysie of Angleton. Most recently, his great-grandchildren Karly Brown (10), Kenzie Brown (8), Kimber Stewart (4) and Tealle Stewart (3) brought him much gladness and amusement, and they cherished time with their Papaw. Even Louis's young great-grandchildren were mesmerized by his humorous stories and vivid imagination.
