Maelena Joyce LaCombe (Philmon) Cato, 78, of Shreveport, Louisiana and long time resident of Sweeny, Texas, passed away on November 18, 2016 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 9:30am - 11:00am at Palms Funeral Home located at 2300 East Mulberry, Angleton, Texas. Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation, beginning at 11:00am, with John Price, of First Baptist Church of Sweeny, officiating. Burial will follow at Gulf Prairie Cemetery, in Jones Creek, Texas. Maelena was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and Social Order of the Beauceant. She was known for having great talent in the kitchen, having cooked for the Sweeny Rotary Club for many years, as well as baking many wedding and special occasion cakes for friends and family. She was also a master seamstress, sewing countless costumes, uniforms, prom and wedding dresses. Maelena was born in Bell City, Louisiana to Artelus and Pauline Lacombe on August 18, 1938. She is preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, and husband James E. Cato. She is survived by children Karl Philmon and wife KumCha, Darrel Philmon and wife Heather, Karen Philmon, Kerry Philmon and wife Misti, Michelle Dunnavant and husband Jerry, and Kathryn Walters and husband Burrell, grandchildren Randa Keller Robinson and husband Chris, Armond Philmon II and wife Sue, Amanda Keller, James Philmon and wife Leila, Kyra Philmon Shelton and husband Gary, Laura Philmon, Maeve Philmon Bowers and husband Zach, Dayna Philmon, Kortney Rutledge Waller and husband Phil, Samantha Enriquez, Daniel Enriquez, Peyton Philmon, Chloe Walters, Pearson Philmon, and Dalton Philmon, and eleven great-grandchildren, as well as former husband of 42 years, Armond "Buddy" Philmon.
