Our loving mother, Maria Delfina Rodriguez, 92, of Angleton passed away on January 3, 2024.
She was born on November 2, 1931 in San Diego, Texas to Ramon J. Garcia, Sr. and Amelia (Solis) Garcia. She is a descendant of the Solis family who settled in San Diego, Texas in the early 1800’s. Her grandfather, Lucas Solis, was one of ten sons who were prominent ranchers of Duval County, Texas.
She married Severo Rodriguez on November 10, 1951 at the St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas. They originally lived in San Diego, Texas where their daughters were born. When her husband went to work for Harry Newton and Zack Burkett construction companies they traveled as far as Hobbs, New Mexico as well as the State of Texas. They moved to Angleton in 1965 when her husband went to work for Stanley Construction. She raised her daughters in the Catholic faith at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Erskine Street and also ensured they were well educated. She proudly displayed their Angleton High School graduation photographs.
Maria loved to take care of her family, friends, and neighbors, making sure they were welcome in her home. In her later years, her family, friends, and neighbors cared for her wellbeing after the death of her husband. Many family traditions and gatherings brought love and happiness to her, especially her love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
