Marvin Edward Jacobson

January 20, 1920 — March 13, 2012

Marvin Edward Jacobson, 92 of Angleton, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012. Marvin was born January 20, 1920 in Bisbee, Arizona to Jacob and Jennie Jacobson, Norwegian immigrants. Marvin is a WWII Veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps stationed at Wattisham, England. He served overseas for 33 months without returning stateside. Marvin was an avid sports fan; he was the team captain for the 1936 Angleton High School football team and won the District 35B Championship. He was also the Brazoria County tennis champion. In tennis, competitions did not go to any higher level than county champ back in those years. He worked in the Little League and Babe Ruth League baseball programs, coaching his son Eddie's teams, and was responsible for welding the fences around the field at the first baseball diamond at what is now called Edward's Field. In 1980 he retired from Dow Chemical Company after 40 years. He had the great privilege of flying to Washington D.C. last September on the Dow WWII Veterans Honor Flight. He felt it was one the greatest days of his 92 years. He loved hunting and saltwater fishing. Marvin was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Bettye Middleton Jacobson; parents, Jacob and Jennie; brother, Harry Jacobson and wife Imma Jean; sisters, Marie Shanks and husband, T.J., Ida Osborn and husband, Ozzie, and Josephine Jacobson; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Gual Jacobson. He is survived by his son, Dr. Edward Jacobson of Longview, TX; daughters, Kathryn Jacobson Clegg of Angleton and Mary Ellen Jacobson Wade and husband, Tommy of Lake Jackson; granddaughters, Kristen Kirkpatrick (Tray) and Bonnie Claire Nelson; grandson, Eric Jacobson; great grandchildren, Kyler, Kinleigh and Kayden Kirkpatrick, Alexis Nelson, and Eric Essex Jacobson; and niece Dr. Jeanne Shanks Sellers and husband, Jim.
