Mary Beth Brown

January 7, 1958 — June 18, 2021

Beth Brown went to be with her Lord June 18th following a short illness. She was born in Houston, Texas to Doyle Eugene "Gene" and Ruth Johnson. She was a 1977 graduate of Bellaire High School and 1981 graduate of Texas Tech with a BS in Education: a member of Chi Omega sorority. Beth was a career teacher, spending more than 29 years in the classroom before retiring and continuing to volunteer and substitute teach for the rest of her life. She was an active community volunteer: serving as a CASA, spending more than 20 years, and retiring as a Lt. Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol, and serving as in the USCG Auxiliary. She was active in her church, First UMC of Brazoria, TX and sang in the choir. Children were her lifelong passion, especially at church. She loved teaching and leading, especially Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, UMYF, and Wacky Wednesday. Crafts were her specialty. Beth was preceded in death by her father and eldest sister Celinda Booher. She is survived by her husband Rev. Donald Brown, her mother Ruth Singleton Johnson, sisters: Rhonda Riser and Karen Watkins. Sister-in-law Leanne Bourgeois. And many nieces and nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Also, countless friends. Beth's life will be celebrated, July 7th at 2 pm at Columbia UMC in West Columbia, Rev. Nancy Jo Cobbs presiding. Bright colored clothing encouraged; meal to follow. In lieu of flowers, school supplies will be collected at the service for Barrow and Wild Peach elementary schools, however, feel free to donate them to your local elementary school in her name if more convenient.
