Mary Alicia Deskins, a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, at her home in Angleton, Texas.
Born on June 6, 1956 in Liberty, Texas, Alicia’s early life was marked by travel as her father, James, worked for the railroad. After graduating from Theodore Roosevelt High School in San Antonio, Texas, she followed in her father’s footsteps working for the railroad as well, and ultimately settled in Angleton.
Alicia began her career with the Union Pacific Railroad. Her achievements there opened up many opportunities for her in the Houston area with companies such as South Coast Terminals, British Petroleum, and Compressor Engineering to name a few. These experiences allowed her to meet, work with, and become close friends with many people from around the world. She was afforded the opportunity to travel throughout her career, garnishing friendships and experiences she appreciated dearly. Her dedication and expertise were recognized and respected by her colleagues globally.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Alicia cherished her family. She was devoted to her parents, children, and grandchildren, always eager to share stories about their latest endeavors. Alicia never missed an opportunity to support those she loved by attending all Little League baseball games, school band concerts, educational and military graduations and milestones. As an only child, she chose to retire early and focus on dedicating her time to caring for her parents in their later stages of life.
She was a compassionate soul who welcomed many pets into her heart and home throughout her life. Her love for animals was boundless, and any stray that crossed her path could find a caring home with her. Spending time outdoors surrounded by her furry friends brought her immense joy.
The family would like to specifically thank the 3 Amigas for their lifelong loyalty and friendship, as well as her neighbors for always being there with kindness and companionship.
Alicia was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Berry. She is survived by: children, Shane Hoffmeyer and Suzanne, Daniel Deskins and wife Melissa, and Patrick Deskins; and grandchildren, Rye and Olivia Hoffmeyer, and Gwendolyn and Nicholas Schaufelberger.
Alicia will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a local animal shelter in Alicia’s memory.
