Mary Mordente Fuchs, of Angleton, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at the age of 62. Born on November 19, 1962, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, Mary lived a life filled with love, adventure, and a deep dedication to helping others.
An accomplished Physician's Assistant, Mary devoted her career to the healthcare industry. Over the years, she worked in ophthalmology, hemophilia, geriatrics, obstetrics, general medicine, and for Shriners, ultimately concluding her career in correctional medicine, where she worked tirelessly for J. Allen & Associates. Known for her compassionate approach and unwavering commitment to her patients, she embodied the lesson she cherished most: “Be interested, not interesting.” This principle guided her both personally and professionally, allowing her to form meaningful connections with everyone she met.
Mary often humorously dubbed herself “PA/PI.” While officially a Physician’s Assistant, she was a “Private Investigator” at heart—loving to know and remembering every detail of everyone’s story.
On December 30, 2018, Mary celebrated her love by marrying Kenneth W. Lipscomb on a beautiful cruise ship in Galveston, Texas. Their partnership was a testament to the joy and adventure that life can bring, and together they created countless cherished memories.
Mary was a proud mother to her sons, Christian and Charles Carter, and her daughter, Sarah Fuchs. She found immense joy in family gatherings and was often seen with a camera in hand, capturing precious moments to scrapbook later. Her lifelong passion for doll collecting brought her and her family great delight. Mary equally loved working out in matching outfits, hiking, and traveling, always eager to explore new places and cultures. She was also a meticulous shopper—her family and friends knew never to be in a hurry if she was “just looking.”
Mary was a member of Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Angleton, Texas.
She is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth W. Lipscomb; her children Christian Carter of The Woodlands, Charles Carter and wife Yvonne of Houston, and Sarah Fuchs of Houston; and step-children Nicholas and Amanda Lipscomb of Austin. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Brenan, Luke, Emily, and Erin and their mother, Crystal; and her granddog Weezy.
Her siblings: Neil Surgi and wife Gloria Ruffin of Branson, Missouri; Darrell Surgi and wife Michelle Bruno of Port Arthur; Paul Mordente and wife Naomi Hernandez of Dickinson; David Mordente and wife Daisy of Kirbyville; Stephen Mordente and wife Shari Taylor of Friendswood; and Christina Mordente of Markham, each carry a piece of her spirit, embodying the warmth and kindness she shared with the world.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, Sam Mordente, Sr.; her mother, Jacqueline (Leche) Creighton; and her brother, Sam Mordente, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Neil Surgi, Darrell Surgi, Paul Mordente, David Mordente, Stephen Mordente, and Patrick Fuchs.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. John Paul Shen, MD, and all of the dedicated staff at MD Anderson for their compassionate care of Mary over the last two years. They would also like to thank Dr. Patrick Wagner with Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, PA, whose superhero efforts during an 11-hour surgery undoubtedly extended Mary’s life. Special thanks are extended to the staff at Family House in Pittsburgh for their hospitality during Mary and Ken’s extended stays. The family also deeply appreciates the compassionate team at Divinity Hospice, including Deborah, Lori, and Cheryl.
A special acknowledgment goes to dear friends Debbie Boyd, Shelly Hagen, and Tami Brown for their unwavering love, devotion, and care for Mary, along with the many others who supported her.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church with Father Travis Smith officiating. Friends are invited to a time of visitation on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton from 6:30 pm until 9:00 pm.
In the spirit of Mary’s love for sharing memories, the family invites all who knew her to bring their favorite stories to share as we celebrate the incredible impact she had on so many lives.
