Mildred Marie Brown Barham Matthews, 89, of Angleton, Texas, passed away peacefully May 6th at her home surrounded by her family. Mildred was born July 11, 1927 in Johnson City, Illinois. She moved and made Texas her home in 1950 with the father of her children, Troy Barham. Mildred worked as a hairdresser for over 50 years and was a great mentor to so many. Mildred loved spending time with her family, Bingo and an occasional trip to Louisiana. Cards and bowling were also a passion. She was married to Jim Matthews for 13 years and enjoyed many trips. Mildred was a proud mother of 3 children, Lindell Barham (Karen), Cheryl Peters (Larry), Darlene Stulberg (Marty). Sister in law, Wanda Sandberg (Bud) and 11 grandchildren, Ashley, Zachary, Melinda, James, Michael, Alan, David, Danny, Chase, Tori and Taylor and 8 great grandchildren. Her warmth and caring extended to her ‘adopted' children, Susie Jenkins and Yulanda Hanson. Her smile, kindness and feisty attitude will be greatly missed by all and her long time friends from Johnson City. A special thanks for the caring and support of many friends, caregivers and visiting nurses, especially Sharon, Cynthia, and Frankie. Preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Brown, father, Fred Brown, sister, Vivian Phillips, and husband, Jim Matthews Visitation will be Tuesday, May 9th from 5pm to 7pm at Palms Funeral Home.
