Monroe Eugene "Sonny" Willis

March 15, 1939 — January 13, 2021

Monroe Eugene Willis, "Sonny", 81, returned to his heavenly home on January 13, 2021, due to complications of COVID-19 while recovering from open heart surgery in Angleton, Texas. Sonny was born on March 15, 1939, in Hope, Arkansas, to Monroe and Vivian Willis. Sonny married Judy Kay Corley on December 12, 1969, at the home of Jerry and Shirley Ganze in Angleton, Texas. When asked recently what the secret to being married for 51 happy years was, he said, "Yes, dear." He took great joy in woodworking, helping his neighbors, building houses during missionary work in Honduras and Mexico, spending time with his family, and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He served his country proudly in the US Air Force from 1958 - 1962 and received an Honorable Discharge. He had a long and successful career as a Technician at the Dow Chemical Company, retiring in 1996. Sonny will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Judy; his children: son Chad (Christine) Willis, daughters Alena Branch, Mindy (Steve) Dollinger, and family friend ‘adopted' son Coach Perkins; eight grandchildren: Timothy (Gabbi) Branch, Kalynn (Tyson) Roderick, Colin Branch, Thomas Branch, Jessica Rodgers, Danielle (Harry) Chapman, Jacob Rodgers, and Sadie Willis; and five great-grandchildren: Madilynn and Margo Branch, Weston and Jaxton Roderick, and Savannah Chapman. Also remembered by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Monroe and Vivian Willis, sister Mildred (Raymond) Honea, and brother James Ray Willis. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Service Details. Family and friends are coming together online to create a special keepsake. Every memory left on the online obituary will be automatically included in this book. View Tribute Book
