Nellie Lucille Heavenridge

Nellie Lucille Heavenridge entered the gates of Heaven on August 25, 2017 with her family by her side at the beautiful age of 93. Nellie was born on December 31, 1923 in Lumberton, North Carolina to Jasper Edge & Lela Ree Rozier Edge. Nellie was a loving wife and mother. She was deeply loved by everyone that she knew. Nellie attended Barker Ten Mile school in Lumberton, North Carolina from 1929 until she graduated from high school in 1941. She went to business school after graduation and received a business certification in bookkeeping. When World War II broke out, Nellie was a secretary for a General at Maxton Air Force base in Laurinburg, North Carolina. In 1944, she met Bob Heavenridge at a USO dance and they fell in love and after the war, they were married at Regan Methodist Church in Lumberton, North Carolina on November 15, 1947. From that beautiful union of marriage, Bob & Nellie had two loving children, Robert & Denelle. Nellie was a bookkeeper from 1947 until 2008. She kept books for Land's Jewelers in Raleigh, North Carolina in the beginning. Then in 1956, she and Daddy relocated to Texas for Daddy's work. She was a bookkeeper for Dr. Robert D. Hurst, Sr. from 1968 until 1979, then from 1980 to 1984 she was the bookkeeper for Houston Cardiovascular Rehab Center in Houston, Texas. Then she kept books for Nature By Design from 1999 to 2008 in Angleton, Texas Nellie was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Angleton, Texas since 1956. She was a member of the United Methodist Women where she served as the President from 1984 through 1987. She was a member of the Sarah Elizabeth United Methodist Women's Circle for 58 years. Now, Nellie has been greeted in Heaven by her loving husband Robert James ( Bob) Heavenridge, her mother and father, 3 brothers, 2 sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews and a host of other family members and friends and her precious son-in-law David Alvin Polansky. She is survived by her children, Dr. Robert M. Heavenridge, Ph.D and Mrs. Denelle A. Polansky, daughter-in-law Angela Rene Heavenridge, her brother Norris Edge and wife Sue and many nieces, nephews and friends. Nellie's visitation will begin on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., followed by her funeral at 2:00 p.m, at the First United Methodist Church in Angleton, Texas. Burial services will follow at a later date at Regan Methodist Church Cemetery in Lumberton, N.C. In lieu of usual remembrances, donations may be made to The First United Methodist Church or the American SPCA.
