Norma Jean Smith

Norma Jean Strimple Smith was born April 16, 1935 in Damon Texas to Albert Jim & Edna Kilsby Strimple. She was the eldest of four children growing up in West Columbia and Graduating from West Columbia High School. She died on August 1, 2020 in Lake Jackson After a lengthy illness. She is pre-deceased by her parents, her loving spouse Eldon, her daughter Tonni, brother Delbert Strimple and sister Anetta Strother; also her in-laws, Tishie and Elton Smith and Brother-in-law, Glen Smith. She is survived by her son Randy Smith and wife Rhonda of Alvin, granddaughter Aime Meeks Of Danbury, grandsons Keith Smith & wife Tina of West Columbia, Brandon Smith of Alvin, Brent Smith & wife Jennifer of West Columbia, and Jeremiah, Daniel, & Mathew Laine. Great-grandchildren include Brooke, Beth & Sadie Meeks of Danbury, Megan & Mya Smith of Alvin, Jacob & Aubree Smith of West Columbia, Carson Smith, Noah & Micah Green of West Columbia and Autumn & Ava Laine. Her brother Bruce Strimple & wife Mary of Deer Park, as well as a host of other family & friends. Norma & Eldon were married October 24, 1953 and she was a true helpmate to his every endeavor. They were a big part of getting the library in Danbury. They could be found doing whatever needed Doing at community fundraisers, school carnivals, games, & competitions, Masonic activities And at First Baptist Church. Creative from a very young age, she was a talented florist and a gifted seamstress owning a flower Shop and later a drapery shop in Danbury for many years. Her corsages, curtains, and costumes Brought smiles to many faces and were always made with love. Eldon was a Shrine Clown (Tubby) and Norma became a member of the Daughters of the Nile. She learned to clog and square dance and many of their happiest times were spend entertaining children At the Shriner's Hospital in Galveston. Norma was very proud of her Czech heritage, and her Kolaches and tea rings were the best. And she Loved Polka music. Above all she deeply loved her family and was devoted to whatever they were interested in. She was A very special Mom & Granny and will be very missed. Pallbearers will be Keith Smith, Brent Smith, Brandon Smith, Jacob Smith, Raymond Strother & Steve Strimple. Honorary Pallbearer will be Charlie Crouch. There will be a visitation Tuesday, August 4, 2020 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Palms Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Palms Funeral Home with Ramey Heddins officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to the Shriner's Hospital-Donor Development, 6977 Mains Street, Houston, Texas 77030.
