Patsy Doreen Johnson

September 15, 1924 — March 16, 2013

Patsy Doreen Moseman Johnson, who cherished the old rugged cross, has at last laid down her trophies. She passed away March 16, 2013 in Lake Jackson. Patsy was born in Gonzales, TX, September 15, 1924, and moved to Angleton as a pre-schooler. She was a product of Angleton schools, and served as president of her Senior Class of 1941. In 1940, she met Harry Johnson, a young corn-fed Nebraskan who had recently arrived in town to build Dow Chemical. Harry was only the third Yankee in Angleton, but since the other two were Patsy's parents, Charles and Martha, Patsy understood Yankee sensibilities and in no time at all Patsy and Harry were an item. They married in 1944 while Harry was on leave from the Marines, and they spent the next year crossing the country as Harry trained for his next assignment. When the war ended they returned to Angleton and spent the next fifty years growing things, specializing in kids, gardens, and pecan trees. Harry died in 1995. They had a good time and were in a good place. In retirement, Patsy served as a volunteer at Angleton-Danbury Hospital. She had been employed over the years at Northside Elementary School and the Brazoria County Library. She always said her most unusual job was with The United States Navy Department of Garbage and Bones (clerical division), a position she held during the war. Patsy was born with congenital (and congenial) optimism. She remained a carrier for the rest of her life, infecting all she came in contact with. She did not invent generosity, but she perfected it. You just knew you were going to feel good when you were around her. Patsy loved her grandchildren and her flowers, and she loved to dance. She could recite the names of her favorite dancing partners clear back to the 1930's, but always thought Harry was the best. Patsy is survived by her children, Bill and wife Sandra of Lake Jackson, Johnny and wife Viki of Georgetown, and Holly Brod and husband Frank of Bellevue, Washington. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Dixie Collins and Mary Jane Zimmerman and brother, Mac Moseman, all of Angleton. The family extends its sincere thanks to the people of Angleton who, over the years, treated Patsy as if she were their Mom, too. Patsy was once asked, in jest, if she planned to live forever. "I plan," she quickly replied, "to waltz across Heaven with Harry, forever." The orchestra is tuning up as you read this. Amen.
