Paul Allen Fry

December 7, 1954 — December 3, 2017

Paul Allen Fry, beloved husband and father, passed away at 11:22am on Sunday, December 3, 2017 in Galveston, Texas. Born in Lufkin, Texas, on December 7, 1954 to Bobbie (Doss) Fry and William Allen Fry, he began a "tumbleweed" life filled with strong family ties and a love of adventure and travel. He began his adult life as an employee of the Texas Department of Corrections, following in his father and mother's footsteps. He was a field lieutenant and Livestock Supervisor at Clemens Prison Farm in Brazoria, Texas for several years where he was able to indulge his love for animals and to work in the legendary Texas Prison Rodeo. After leaving TDC, he began a career in oilfield and refinery services that would last him until his death. Jobs with various companies provided him the means and opportunity to meet people and form lifelong friendships and to travel the country and the world. While working in the catalyst-handling field, he developed a load-handling system for tubular reactors that would earn him three US patents and set the standard for catalyst handling that remains today. Most recently, he was a General Manager for JVIC Catalyst - Trinidad Operations. As with every job posting in far-flung corners of the world, he learned to love the people, their culture and their food, the spicier the better. He loved nothing more than telling stories around a campfire, on a deer lease, or on the water. The storytelling gene he got from his father has now passed to his sons, who have also inherited the ability to fix anything and to provide for and love their families. Paul was preceded in death by his loving father and mother, Allen and Bobbie Fry, and by his beloved grandson, Caydin Blaze Fry. He is survived by his wife, Martha (Simmons) Fry, with whom he would have celebrated 20 years of marriage on December 9. He is also survived by his brother Kent and his nephew Robert, Robert's wife Jessica and their children Kambrie and Rhylin, his niece Brittany, her fiance Ryan Thompson and her daughter Ashlyn. Most importantly, left to carry on a legacy of hard work, family love and the ability to never meet a stranger or to fail to fix anything are his two beloved sons. There was never a father prouder of Cody Allen Fry, his wife Lorry, their children Collin, Aniston, Paxtyn and Dossin, of Mont Belvieu, Texas, and Sgt. Dustin Cole Fry, his wife Shiella and their children Savannah and Liam of Ft. Bliss 127 ASB, El Paso, Texas. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Paul and Martha's hometown of Angleton, Texas at noon on Saturday, December 9, 2017.
