Phoebe Elizabeth Sawyer

April 26, 1926 — January 3, 2014

Phoebe Elizabeth Sawyer, 87, of Angleton, Texas passed away on Friday, January 3, 2014. Surrounded by family in her home of over forty years, she began the next stage of life's journey. The night was brisk, the sky was clear, and the stars shone bright upon her departure. Phoebe was born in Galveston, Texas on April 26, 1926 to her loving parents William Dugan and Elizabeth Fagan. The youngest of three children, she truly was the apple of her father's eye, and under her parent's guidance grew into a beautiful woman both heart and soul. She spent her childhood in Galveston County between the Island and the little town of Algoa, and like her parents, she remained a resident of the Texas Gulf Coast her entire life. On August 15, 1956 Phoebe married the love of her life, Edward "Tom" Sawyer, embarking on a fifty-seven year marriage built on unshakable love and never ending devotion. Together they raised a family, shared their lives, and provided a remarkable example for their children and grandchildren regarding the necessity of faith, trust, and understanding in a relationship. Phoebe was a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, yet she was so much more. She was an amazing homemaker, kind caregiver, and a powerful mentor. Her love of nature, of birds, flowers, and bright sunny days imparted an appreciation for life's simple joys to her whole family. Although Phoebe is gone she will never be forgotten, as her family will hold their memories of her close to their hearts and always at their call. Phoebe is preceded in death by her parents, sister Sarah Jezard, brother William Dugan Jr., and son James Barney Sawyer. She is survived by her husband Tom; daughter, Bird Cook (Charlie); sons, William Sawyer (Laura); Thomas Sawyer (Charlotte); grandchildren, Caleb; Matthew; T.J.; Jeana; Sara; Cara; Kim; Carmen; Carl; great grandchildren, Lance; Lacey; Sawyer; and numerous close family and friends. Phoebe's family would like to thank the hospice nurses at IPH, especially Danielle and Casey, for their help and support during her last few months. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton with visitation from 5:00 p.m. until services begin.
