Raynaldo Cantu "Rey" Gonzales

September 25, 1951 — June 2, 2022

Raynaldo Cantu Gonzales, 70, of Angleton passed away on June 2, 2022. Ray was born on September 25, 1951, in Floresville to parents Camerino and Maria (Cantu) Gonzales. Growing up they didn't have much, but he learned at an early age to become a fighter in all ways imaginable. He was originally from Bay City, TX., where he was married to Norma Flores for 15 years. Together they have 4 children Jeannie, Ray, Ricky and Bonnie. He moved to Holiday Lakes in the early 90's where he said, "he was going to stay till it was time to go". Ray was very proud of what he had. Although it may have not been much to most it was plenty to him. He was a humble man and to know him was to love him. He truly loved people and never met a stranger. One of his greatest joys was helping family /friends. Ray enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a very social man and his friends loved him. His life experiences made for the best stories. And everything he spoke about was no doubt true events that happened to him. Ray may not have gotten your name right but make no mistake he knew who you were. He could be the most stubborn and strong man you'd meet, but all his grandkids loved him. They enjoyed hearing his jokes, watching him dance or telling his stories. Being outdoors with a beer in one hand and a smoke in the other was how you could find him. Collecting "antiques" as he would say about whatever he found on the side of the road, was something he loved to do. Ray was diagnosed with cancer 5 years ago, but that didn't stop him from living life. "He would rather have gone down in a gun fight" as he would say. But the lord had other plans for him. "QUE NO SE APAGUE LA LUMBRE" "DON'T LET THE FIRE EVER GO OUT" Those that preceded him in death include his parents, Camerino and Maria Gonzales; brother, Valde Gonzales, and sister Mary Gonzales. Those left to treasure his memory are his children, Jeannie Calvillo, Ray Gonzales, Ricky Gonzales, Bonnie Cordoba, Rainy Dewitt, Taylor Johnson, and Brandon Dewitt; brothers and sisters, Christina, Joe, David, Rudy, Raymond, and Camerino Jr., along with 12 grandkids, 14 great grandkids and numerous nieces and nephews.
