Richard Ray Rasberry

January 20, 1966 — July 23, 2024

Richard Ray Rasberry, devoted husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, was born January 20, 1966 in Freeport, Texas and went to his final sleep at his home in Angleton, Texas, on July 23, 2024.

Richard loved that his initials were “RRR” but was happy that the nickname Tiger never stuck and preferred and liked being called “Raz.”

He was the yin to his wife, Christine’s yang and was the proud father of four sons-Justin, Mathew, Camaron and Timothy-who he affectionately referred to as the “freeloaders.”

Richard was a big man, not only in stature, but in personality and heart. Those that didn’t know him well and did not understand his wry wit and dry sense of humor probably thought of him as a jerk, which was far from the truth, but it was ok with him if that’s what they thought! He loved his family unconditionally. He treated everyone with fairness and kindness-there wasn’t a mean bone in his body.

After his father’s death, Richard helped his mother run the family business, Rasberry’s Restaurant in Freeport where he continued his dad’s legacy of dishing out great fried chicken. There were also family battles between Richard and his sister Lynn, over who could cook the best gumbo!

After the family business closed, Richard went to work for Dow and later Olin, working for both companies for over 25 years. In his combined time at Dow and Olin, he established great friendships and work relationships. Richard was well respected at work and it didn’t matter to him whether the person was a contractor, vendor or Olin, he treated everyone equally with respect and kindness and he cherished those relationships.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby and Pansy Rasberry and his son, Camaron Hayes. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Christine Zgabay Rasberry, three sons, Justin (Jennah) Hubenak, Mathew (April) Hayes, and Timothy (Isamar) Hayes, his sisters, Lynn Rasberry Brooks and Connie (Christopher) Rasberry June, and brother, Robert (Sherry) Rasberry. He was the proud grandpa of Cayson, AJ and Sarabella, and a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews, James “Jim Bob” Brooks, Bobby Rasberry, Robert Rasberry, Jr., Zoe Pulido, Benjamin Mason, Adela June, Nora Pulido and Carter Shavell.

A celebration of life service will be held Monday, July 29, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas, after which an Irish wake will follow at his home at 5:00 p.m. at 121 Corral Ct., Angleton, Texas. Family and friends are invited to come enjoy food and drink and share their memories and stories of Richard.

“An Irish Blessing” May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.”
