Richard Vargas Chavez

Richard Vargas Chavez went to be with his Lord and Saviour on February 27, 2020. Richard was born on October 6, 1959 to Edward P and Esperanza Chavez. He was the fifth child of seven. He spent all of his childhood in Galveston, TX. He graduated from Ball High School in May of 1978. Shortly, after graduating he went to study at the Concilio Latino Americano de Iglesias Cristianas (C.L.A.D.I.C) Seminary school. He spent two years studying before being assigned to pastor over his 1st church in Tucson, AZ. He completed his last year of seminary in 1987. Richard was a licensed minister for over 30 years and pastored in churches located in Los Angeles, CA, Brownsville, TX, and Houston, TX. He retired from ministering in 2000. He enjoyed his second career as a bus operator for METRO Houston in which he spent over 15 years as a bus operator mainly working out of the Polk Street garage. He retired from METRO in 2015. He completed his Bachelors of Science in Psychology in 2016. Richard was married to Maria Antoinette Schmeda on August 15, 1981. They completed 38 years of marriage. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his children Richard A Chavez and spouse Kristina M Chavez, Ariane M Wood and spouse Kenneth Wood, Marissa A Chavez, Seth J Chavez, Laura Cisneros, grandchildren Brianna A Wood, Abigale G Chavez, Elijah A Wood, Gabriella H Chavez, Caroline M Chavez, and Olivia R Chavez, brothers Edward P Chavez II and spouse Yvonne, Jimmy Chavez and spouse Judy, and sisters Linda Amaya, Sylvia Salazar and spouse Joe, Lucy Ortega and spouse Greg, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his dad Edward P Chavez Sr, mother Esperanza V Chavez, and brother Robert Chavez. For everyone that knew Richard, his life's passion was connecting with people. There wasn't a conversation he didn't enjoy having. He always had a story to tell or news to share. He always made sure that he kept up communication with everyone. He played an important role in his life as the patriarch. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He made sure he never missed a birthday, holiday, baseball game, band concert, school play, jiu-jitsu match or a date he made with his grandchildren. Pa always gave the biggest hugs and the best kisses. He was usually Pa first and daddy second. There was nothing he wouldn't give or do for his children.
