Rick L. Shipley Rick Shipley was born in Des Moines, IA on March 11, 1952. He passed away on Thurs. Aug 11, 2016 from a lengthy illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Minnette Shipley. His brother, Ken Shipley. A nephew, Ian Shipley and his wife Stephanie, two great nieces, Annalyse and Jillian. Niece, Mandala Wojnar and her husband, Olek, two great nephews, Nathaniel and Lucas. His sister, Rhonda Smith, her husband, Neil. And three nieces, Chelsea, Moriah, and Hannah Smith, and an uncle, Roscoe Shipley and an aunt, Maudine Dinsmore both of Kansas City, MO. and numerous cousins. His parents, Donald L Shipley and Erma Dale Shipley, and Ken Shipley's wife, Joyce predeceased him. Rick graduated from Valley Forge High School in Parma, OH. He received his Bachelor's degree in Polymer Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, OH. Rick was employed by Dow Chemical Co. where he worked to develop an instant-set polymer. He was a foundational partner along with founder, Erich Bredl, of Intrepid Industries Inc. of La Porte, TX. They created the Intrepid Single Bar and Double Bar Safety Gates, Grating Penetration Collars, and other products for applications in chemical and industrial plants. Rick helped to expand the business to include distributors in the Netherlands, in Singapore, and in Australia. For several years Rick worked for MHMR, creating job situations for their clients, including the Fairweather Lodge program, and a highway litter pick-up service, and the recycling center for the city of Lake Jackson. He was active in the First Presbyterian Church in Angleton, where he loved singing in the choir. He was an optimistic, kind, generous man, who encouraged others. He was genuinely loved and will be missed by many. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Aug 16, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Angleton, 130 S. Arcola St., at 10:30 am.
