Riley Franklin Mogford, born May 12, 1932, passed from this life on May 26, 2024 at the age of 92. Riley was born in Hunt, TX to parents Ben & Verlie Mogford.
Riley will be welcomed in heaven by both of his parents, his brother Harold Mogford, and his son Dale Mogford.
Riley graduated from Tivy High School and then enrolled at Texas State University (was Southwest Texas State Teachers University) in San Marcos, TX., graduating in 1953. Following college, next was a four-year stent in the U.S. Air Force. He also served in the National Guard after being discharged from the Air Force. Riley went on to teach school In La Grange for one year, then worked at Rocket Dine for one year. Riley went to work at Dow Chemical in 1960 as a chemist for 26 years. He then had a second career at the Brazoria County Appraisal District for 20 years. Riley was a dedicated worker wherever he was.
In between his working careers, Riley met & married his loving wife Betty on November 5,1966. Riley & Betty had many passions together. They loved to travel, went to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Russia, and several other countries. They sailed on approximately 30 cruises visiting Hawaii, Alaska, Iceland, Greenland, the Panama Canal and all over the Caribbean. They loved to play bridge and played in several clubs. They were very avid square & round dancers for over 50 years and Riley was also a square dance caller. The two together met lots of friends along the way, making wonderful memories around the world and dance floor.
Riley is survived by his loving wife, Betty Mogford; son, Alan Mogford (Tracy), daughter, Christi Mogford Cole (Chip); grandchildren, Christopher Mogford (Courtney), Nicolas Mogford, Taylor Geerdes (Alicia), Lisa Mogford Kunkel (Kyle), Danny Mogford, Dale Jay Mogford (Carolin) , Denise Mogford Biere (Josh), Breanna Cole (Javier), Kevin Cole, Trey Cole (Crystal). Riley also leaves to cherish his life, numerous great grandchildren and special cousins Linda and Bruce Tackes in Tennessee.
Visitation will be held on Friday, 5/31/24 at Palms Funeral Home, 2300 E. Hwy 35, Angleton from 5:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. Funeral services will be on Saturday, 6/1/24 at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, 227 S. Chenango St. Angleton, TX. at 10:00 a.m. with Celebrant, the Reverend Travis Smith, Deacon and Vocalist, the Reverend Preston Weatherly, and Musician, Mrs. Candance Wubbena.
