Robert Payne

Robert L. Payne passed away peacefully on July 10, 2020, in his home in Sanderson, Texas, with family at his side. He was born on November 12, 1927 in Michigan. He was the last of his siblings to be called home. During his lifetime, he served in the US Navy during the WWII, and sacrificed for his country, and our freedom. He worked for the Texas Highway Dept. many years and retired from there after 30+ years of service. He was a very hard-working, headstrong man, who prided in his perfectionism. He was very detailed and precise in all he did, even until his death. He loved his family dearly, and he passed away knowing he was loved. He was married to the love of his life, Jimmie Lee Payne, for 50 years. They were very well known for their love of Angleton. Been here most of their lives. They were both special people with very compassionate hearts. Robert was an extraordinaire in his craftiness. He worked many years in a wood craft business with the family "Wooderful Euneek Crafts." He loved just piddling in his workshop. There was not a job he couldn't do, no matter what it was. Up until the last 10yrs or so, he was never idle, always going. He loved to keep busy. He had a wealth of wonderful friends and co-workers over the years. He was a Christian, a firm believer in the Lord, and he had a personal relationship with his maker. He will surely be missed. Robert's touched so many lives, and his absence will be surely felt. Robert is preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings, and his loving wife, Jimmie Lee Payne. He is survived by his children: Candy Calzada, and husband, Ernesto of Sanderson, Texas. His grandchildren: Michelle Brennan, and husband, Jimmy of Manvel, Monica Holmes, and husband, Stacy of Angleton, and Kim Labeth of Sanderson, Steven Calzada, and wife, LeaAnna of Odessa, and Jonathan Calzada, and wife, Amanda of Odessa. His great-grandchildren: Amber Fortanelli, and husband, Jamie, Nikolas Mendez, Casey Holmes, Reece Matt all from Angleton, Taylor Smithson, Abigail Ditmore, Elliot Calzada, Madellyn Calzada, Isabelle Villanueva all of Odessa. His great-great grandchildren: Leighla Fortanelli and Giovanni Fortanelli. He will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him. rest in Paradise, "Daddy", "PawPaw", "Mr. Payne." See ya some sweet day! His viewing will be at 1pm at Palms Funeral Home, 2300 E. Mulberry, Angleton, Texas, followed by his memorial service at 2pm. Services will be given by an old family friend, Dean Spillers.
