Rodney Leon Gadberry

Rodney Leon Gadberry, 84, of Sandy Point passed away on August 4, 2024. Rodney was born on August 31, 1939, in Wagoner, Oklahoma to Oras Edsel and Helen Marie (Shears) Gadberry.

Rod joined the National Guard after graduating from Wagoner High School, and used his service pay to pay his way through college at Northeastern State University, where he graduated with a BA in Accounting and Mathematics.

He married Martha Jo Cobb on April 12, 1963, in Wagoner, Oklahoma. They moved to Chicago in 1966, and then to Texas in 1968. Rod was a Senior Systems Analyst for Exxon. He retired in 1996 after a 33-year career.

He enjoyed bowling and playing golf with Marty, working on jigsaw puzzles with his girls, and attending as many of his grandkids’ activities as he was able. He was honored to serve as the secretary of the church board at Glad Tidings for 8 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oras and Helen Gadberry of Wagoner, Oklahoma.

Left to treasure his memory is his wife of 61 years, Martha “Marty” Gadberry of Sandy Point, Texas; daughters Pamela Groeschel and her husband, Kerry of Houston, Texas; Lisa Waller and her husband, CJ of Sandy Point, Texas; sister Glenda Altaffer of Hulbert, Oklahoma; grandchildren Laura Marie Waller and Mary Elizabeth Waller of Sandy Point Texas, Sarah Nicole Groeschel of Arlington, Texas and Nathan Ryan Groeschel of Dallas, Texas.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Palms Funeral Home with Rev. Calvin Durham officiating.

Visitation will also be held at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner, Oklahoma on Friday, August 9, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with funeral services on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of God in Wagoner, Oklahoma with interment following at the Pioneer Cemetery.
