Sammy Taylor

November 20, 1926 — October 9, 2015

Sammy Wadley Taylor, 88, of Angleton, Texas passed away October 9, 2015 at her residence. She was born November 20, 1926 to Herman Samuel and Drusilla Gilley Wadley in Palmer, Texas. . Sammy was a graduate of Reagan High School. After high school, she attended Jefferson Davis School of Nursing in Houston from which she graduated May 14, 1945. She was a long time nurse for Dr. Warren Hardwick, a school nurse for Angleton ISD, a nurse for UTMB Family Planning Clinic and the Visiting Nurses Association. She held an active registry in nursing for 50 years. Sammy met Robert "Pooper" Taylor, a dashing pilot, and married him in 1950. They celebrated 45 years of marriage on January 7, 1995. Pooper preceded Sammy in death in 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents and sister, Barbara Gay. She was active in many clubs and organizations which included: lifetime member of the Angleton Embroidery Club, longtime member of the Angleton Study Club, Original 500 Stephen F Austin statue, and the 347th Fighter Squadron which held annual reunions. She also was recently inducted into the DAR. Sammy was an ardent supporter of the arts and loved theater, especially with family and friends. She was a faithful friend and continued a lively correspondence with many of her fellow nurses and friends of the Squadron until her passing. Hobbies included spending time with family and friends, traveling, cooking and fishing. A supporter of the arts including The Center at Brazosport College and the Theatre Under the Stars. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Bobby Taylor and wife Lea Ann of Angleton, Texas; Tim Taylor and wife Mary Katherine of Angleton, Texas; and Scott Taylor and wife Sandy of Leander, Texas; as well, as her grandchildren; Staci DiAngleo and her husband Dave, Emilie Taylor, Michael Taylor, Katie Taylor, Beth Taylor, and Andrew Taylor as well as one great-grandchild, Olivia DiAngelo. Some of our most precious memories of Sammy include theater productions, traveling to Squadron reunions, and holidays and family gatherings in her home. Sammy constantly surprised us with her sense of humor (sometimes wicked) and a twinkle of mischief in her eye.
