Sandra Ann O'Brien

Sandra Ann (Thompson) O'Brien, 77, of Rosharon went home to her Lord and Savior on July 2, 2021. Sandra was born on June 1, 1944 in San Antonio to parents Wilton and Frances (Piggott) Thompson. Sandy spent her childhood in the south side of San Antonio with her parents and sister. She married her best friend, Edwin Victor O'Brien on April 7th in 1966. After the reception they both sang for the evening Easter service for Houston's First Baptist Church. Ed & Sandy joined the church in 1964 and later met thru bible study groups and while singing in the choir. They made their home in the city of Rosharon, Brazoria County, Texas, where they raised their four children. As of April 2021, they were married 55 years. Sandra had a true love of family, missions, music, learning and teaching. She began a degree at Texas Woman's University at Denton, continuing at the Texas Woman's University Nursing school in the Medical Center at Houston. After Ed & Sandy started their family, she stayed busy with the children at home until they were old enough to attend school. Ed & Sandy spent much time working in the Childrens, Music, & Missions Ministries at First Baptist Church Houston, FBCH at Sienna, & First Baptist Church Rosharon. Sandy held a few jobs including time at Benjamin Franklin Savings & Loan. Prior to obtaining her teaching degree at the University of Houston at Clear Lake, she worked as the school Secretary for the Windham School System at Darrington Prison Unit. She worked in the public school system before moving to the Windham School System,at TDCJ Darrington and teaching for twenty one years. She was named teacher of the year several times and recognized for developing a reading laboratory in the Wyndham School System, at TDCJ Darrington Unit in Rosharon. One of her passions was teaching English as a Second Language - she spent many hours at this after retiring from full time teaching. Sandy participated in the ESL Program at First Baptist Houston's Mission Center, called the Faith Center on Long Point Drive. Ed and Sandy also enjoyed helping in Life Bible Study classes. Sandy was also very active in the Children's program, at Houston's FBC location at Sienna Plantation, for as long as her health permitted. Her greatest treasure was her family. And time spent with them produced many beautiful memories. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents: Wilton A and Frances (Piggott) Thompson; her step father Henry E Currie; & son in law: Jerrel T. Wolf. Left to remember her include her husband Edwin V O'Brien; children: Edwin V. O'Brien, Jr. and wife Martha, Victoria Eileen Wolf, Gerald Henry O'Brien and wife Cassy, John Wilton O'Brien and wife Kristy; sister: Ruth Eileen Simpson; grandchildren: Sara Healey; Morgan & Noel Wolf; Josh & Jian, & Shelby Johnson, Robert Harmen; Kaitlyn & Dylan Wallace, Cody, & Caleb O'Brien; great grandchildren: Sherry Thompson & Christian Jones; Robert (Rallen) Harmon; & Everlee & Hudson Wallace. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 10th, at 11 A.M., at Houston's First Baptist Church Chapel, 7401 Katy Frwy. with Pastor Ron Barkley officiating.
