Sarah “Frances” Atkins was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, during the Great Depression to Philip and Myrtle Atkins, the baby of their seven children. Shortly after her birth, the family returned to Texas. At the age of 10, her family moved to Freeport, Texas. Frances graduated from Freeport High School in 1948 and shortly after graduation she married Billy Mills and they were blessed with five children, Barbara, Sandy, Jerri Lee, Karen, and Scott. In 1981, Mother & Daddy retired and moved to their ranch in Fairfield, Texas. In 1994, after 47 years of marriage, Billy preceded her in death. In 2000, she married Les Taylor who passed away in 2003.


Mother was a devout Christian, who accepted Jesus Christ into her life at age 13, and she remained a loyal and dedicated servant to God.


She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings; as well as Billy Mills and Les Taylor; and two daughters Sandy Mills Dodson and Karen Ann Mills.


She is survived by her children Barbara Monte’ (Larry), Jerri Lee Mills (Brian Jones), Billy “Scott” Mills (Cindy), and son-in-law, Bob Dodson; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.


A “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date at New Beginnings Community Church.
