Sefort "Junior" Matt Jr.

On Friday, January 15, 2021, Sefort Matt, Jr of Angleton, Texas passed away at the age of 84. Sefort was born August 1, 1936 in Louisiana to Sefort and Amynthe Matt. He was known by everyone as simply Junior. He had many adventures in life and made many lifelong friends. He influenced many people over the years and was a man that many people loved and respected. Junior married the love of his life, Annie Courville, on November 26, 1955 at 10 am. The two were virtually inseparable from that moment on. Junior tried his hand as a farmer before going to work for the Sabine Towing as a deckhand. Junior was a member of the Louisiana National Guard in the heavy mortar division. Their life brought them to Angleton in 1958 where they made numerous lifelong friends that they shared many great memories with and that their kids will always cherish. He spent the rest of his years working around Brazoria county but spent most of his years working for Ramsower's and Soileau's in Angleton. Junior spent many years as a Boy Scout leader where he was given the nickname "Sugar Bear" that followed him for many years including being his CB handle. He was active at St. Basil's Catholic Church as a lay minister and also active in the Knights of Columbus, where he spent many years working the bazaars. He was a 3rd degree Knight and spent over 50 years as a member. Junior loved automobiles (especially Ford's) and enjoyed going to the car shows with his children to the Houston Auto Shows. He also loved model cars and John Deere. He and Annie loved going to dance halls in their younger days, like Vrazel's in Danbury, Riverside Hall in East Bernard and The Ramblin' Rose in Brazoria. They loved traveling and camping as well. They enjoyed these vacations with his two brothers and one of his cousins, Aubrey. They enjoyed going to Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to see their favorite country stars perform. Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Sefort and Amynthe Matt. His wife, Annie Courville Matt. His siblings, Dewey Matt, Virginia Thibodeaux, Julia Normand, Catherine Drisdale. Junior is survived by his two siblings, Erin Courville of El Centro, California, and Nelson Matt of Angleton, Texas. He is also survived by his 5 children whom he adored, Tony Matt and Judy Dietz, Kenneth Matt, Janice Haagensen, Cheryl Matt and Lance and Sharyn Matt. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren who brightened up his day, Lacy and Allison Matt, Trevor and Amanda Matt, Caitlin and Paul Flores, Brett and Shelby Sturdivant, Jordyn and Kobey Matt and Mandy and Garrett Ford. He also leaves behind his pride and joy which were his great-grandchildren, Trevor Jr, Graydon, Rilynn and Anna Lou Matt, Arielynn Flores. Pallbearers will be Trevor Matt, Kobey Matt, Timothy Thibodeaux, Daniel Matt, Sam Cox and Tim Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers will be his sons. A visitation for Junior will be held at Palms Funeral Home, on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with a rosary at 6:30. The funeral mass will take place at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, on Thursday, January 21, 2021, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Angleton Cemetery.
