Shirley Gaston Knox

On Sunday, November 7, 2021, Shirley Gaston Knox passed into Glory to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ. Shirley was born in Houston, Texas to Elba Clyde Beard and Eulala Geraldine Holder Beard on May 21, 1928. She grew up in West University Place and graduated from Lamar High School in 1944, where she as an award-winning actress. Shirley met the love of her life, Wellborn W. Gaston, a World War II Veteran and they married in 1946. While raising four children, Shirley continued her education at University of Houston, graduating with a BA Degree in education. She began her teaching career as a teacher for Houston ISD at Johnston Jr. High School teaching English. In 1975, Shirley and Wellborn opened a nationally recognized real estate office in Alief, Texas. A big part of her life was acting and directing for the Southwest Theater Guild in Southwest Houston, starring in many productions and later writing and directing outstanding dramas. In 1977, Shirley and Wellborn accepted Jesus as Lord and joined Braeswood Assembly of God in Houston. After the death of her husband, Shirley retired to her home on the San Benard River and became in active member of Assembly of God in Sweeny and Brazoria. Shirley married Jerry Knox in 1986. Together they served as short term missionaries with Calvary Commission to rural communities in Mexico. At their home in Brazoria, they hosted a bible study and prayer group for five years. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Wellborn Wright Gaston; her husband Jerald Knox; her son Wellborn Wright Gaston, Jr.; her son-in-law Charles Dean Morrison; her sisters Marguerite Prestwood and Doris McBride; and her parents. She is survived by her daughters Sharon Morrison and Sandra Kendall (Glenn), her son Rev. John Gaston (Angela), her daughter-in-law Debbie Gaston, eleven grandchildren, over twenty great grands and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wants to thank Country Village Care in Angleton, their staff and workers for their compassionate and loving care for the past five years. A special thanks to her friend and caretaker Linda Bostrom, the Church family and all the devoted Prayer Warriors who have faithfully stood by Shirley to the end. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 14, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas. Funeral services will be held graveside on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston, Texas, with Rev. John Gaston officiating. Service Details.
