Suzanne Muecke

Suzanne Muecke, 71, of Angleton passed away early Wednesday morning, August 15, 2012, after a six month battle with cancer. She was born on January 15, 1941, in Houston to Gussie and Earl Hopkins. Her family, along with younger brother Bill, moved to Madisonville, Texas, where she grew up and later graduated high school. Suzanne attended Sam Houston State University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education. She and her husband Tom married in 1962 and resided in Galveston for a few years before moving to Angleton where she began her teaching career in 1968. She taught English at Angleton High School for over 35 years, 20 of these years as department head. She participated as cheerleading sponsor for the Angleton Varsity Squad for numerous years, and through these activities along with her involvement with First Baptist Church in Angleton, she touched many lives and influenced countless others in the community. After retiring from teaching, she served two years as President of Alpha Delta Kappa and President of the Brazoria County Chapter of Texas Retired Teachers Association. She spearheaded the curriculum for the Angleton Christian School. Suzanne continued community involvement through Bible Study Fellowship, Backpack Ministry and Book Club. Suzanne is survived by husband Tom Muecke, of Angleton; son, Tom Muecke (Alison), of Friendswood; daughter, Karen Hillier (Glen), of League City; grandchildren, Mackenzie and Garrett Muecke and Tyler and Aaron Hillier; and brother, Bill Hopkins and his wife, Paula, of Cedar Park, Texas. Visitation will be held on August 17 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home, and the funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Angleton.
