Sybil Dingle Andrus

Sybil Dingle Andrus was born on February 8, 1930 in Freeport, Texas. She died peacefully on March 20, 2019 at the age of 89. She is survived by her son Mark Andrus of Angleton, daughter Lynne C. Andrus and her friend Lynn Vance of Austin, brother-in-law Louis Warford of Angleton, sister-in-law Margaret Hudgins Morrison and her husband Jack of Fairview, niece Marla Morrison Fucich and husband Phillip of Allen, nephew Matthew Morrison and wife Janet of Plano, and many cherished great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. She is predeceased by her husband George R. Andrus, father James Harold Dingle, her mother Hilda Shannon Dingle, her mother-in-law Linnie Barth Hudgins, her sister-in-law Carolyn Andrus Warford, brother Harold and his wife Sammye Dingle and sister Mona Dingle. Extended family also includes Gary Brandon and his family who - along with his own acreage - ranches her family ranch in Jones Creek. She was valedictorian of the Freeport High School class of 1948. Sybil married George Andrus on June 9, 1951 and they were married 67 years. She graduated from Rice Institute (now University) with a B.A. in Biology and English in 1955 with Phi Beta Kappa and other academic honors. She later earned an M.S. in Geology from the University of Houston through a full National Science Foundation Scholarship. She taught school at Jane Long Junior High in Houston, the Kinkaid School in Houston, and Angleton Middle School. Sybil led a science television show on PBS station KUHT. She helped many people as an Angleton aide to Congressman Tom DeLay. She worked also for Waymon Moore in his financial services business. She enjoyed reading books, going on cruises, knitting and making quilts. Sybil helped start the Angleton Republican Woman's Club and served in various offices including president of the Cradle of Texas chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) and Clerk of the Session when she attended Bellaire Presbyterian Church. She also was active in the Angleton-Danbury Hospital Women's Auxiliary and the Angleton Food Pantry. Visitation will be Thursday, March 28, 2019 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton. The funeral service will be at Friday, March 29, 2019 at 011:00 a.m. at Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church in Jones Creek. Burial will be immediately afterwards at Gulf Prairie Cemetery with a reception with light refreshments following at the church. Her favorite charities included Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church and the organizations listed above. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to these organizations or a charity of your choice.
