She grew up in the Heights, graduated from Incarnate Word Academy, and thoroughly enjoyed her first job wrapping gifts at Battlesteins. After graduation she went to work for Tennessee Gas until Jake Bludau swept her off her feet and married her in 1958. Together they called Angleton their home for over over 50 years and raised two wonderful children, Nelson and Cheryl. She was a devoted homemaker for many years, but as her kids grew older, she worked for Troy's Drive-Inn, where she visited regularly with many friends and made new acquaintances. Sylvia was a charter member of St. Basil's Catholic Church (later Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church) where she was a member of the Altar Society and a former CCE teacher. She volunteered for Brazoria County for many years overseeing election balloting. Sylvia was a former member of the Brazoria County Home Demonstration and was active in her children's school activities including Northside PTO. She cherished her time cheering on the sidelines of her children and grandchildren's athletic and band events. Sylvia loved to bowl, and for many years she was active in women's leagues as well as senior leagues and enjoyed many bowling trips with friends. Sylvia and Jake loved to entertain, and they hosted many a card game as well as Southwestern Bell's Christmas parties. They also traveled with friends to Las Vegas, Branson, Missouri, Orlando, Florida, and Coushatta as well as several cruises. Sylvia's last adventure was back to Coushatta, where her children helped her celebrate her 80th birthday in August. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jacob Bludau in 2010 and daughter Carol Bludau in 1959.
