Thomas Don 'Don' Harris Sr.

September 25, 1940 — March 10, 2015

Don Harris was born in Hempstead, Texas, to parents Dan and Annie Harris. He was the youngest of 3 brothers - Dane, Dolan, and Don. His family moved to Freeport in 1941, and then to Angleton in 1949. He graduated from Angleton High School in 1959, where as a junior he met the prettiest freshman girl - Lolly Taylor, who he courted and married in 1960. He and Lolly spent 55-years together making a home and raising a family. Don worked and retired from Dow Chemical after 30+ years as a boilermaker, and welding and pressure vessel inspector. He took great pride in his work and being recognized as a top notch craftsman. Through his working relations he made many life-long friends. He continued to do contract work for the company well into his 70's. He enjoyed 12-years as a Little League baseball coach. Through those years as coach of the Panthers, he had many boys take the field who continue to refer to Don as "Coach." He cherished the boys he coached and the life lessons a simple sport can teach. Don is survived by his wife Lolly, brother Dane Harris and wife Bobbie of Wharton, son Thomas Jr., and daughter Sissy Dunn and husband Benny; granddaughters Carissa Davis and husband Richard, Sarah Harris of Lubbock, Malissa Dunn and Jason Kennedy from Sweeny, and grandson Jeramy Dunn; great grandchildren Coletin Price, Austin Davis, Korra Kennedy, Bradley Blanton, Dylan Dunn, and Brendon Davis. Above all else, Don loved, provided for, and cared for his family, always putting their needs above his own. His entire family is grateful to God for the years of love and selfless dedication he gave to us. He was our rock and our warm embrace. He is gone from this world, but his memory lives on through all that knew him as a wonderful husband, Dad, Papa, friend, and man. Arrangements are being handled through Palms Funeral Home.
